There may be questions around Gabriel Jesus’ striking prowess, but if there is one thing he can almost guarantee when he does score – his side will get something out of the game.

Tuesday’s goal at Nottingham Forest extended Jesus’ remarkable Premier League record of never being on the losing side when scoring to 60 games.

He kicked this run off while at Manchester City and brought it with him to Arsenal when he arrived at the club 18 months ago.

Injury has punctuated Jesus’ time with the club, perhaps hampering his ability to make the impact fans had hoped for, but he has still managed to score 19 goals and provide 13 assists across his 56 appearances in all competitions for the north London side.

The 26-year-old showcased his talents almost immediately, scoring his first two goals for Mikel Arteta’s side in his second league game – a 4-2 victory over Leicester City in August 2022.

Also this season, he has demonstrated his ability in front of goal when his side have really needed it.

A deliciously composed finish against Manchester United at Emirates Stadium in September was vital for sealing victory and, even last night, his clever shot throught the legs of Mat Turner pushed the Gunners towards a key win in their battle for top spot. Moments that could prove pivotal come the end of the season.

Arsenal have been linked with numerous number nines during Mikel Arteta’s tenure but, if Jesus can get into a run of form in front of goal, Arteta might already have exactly what he needs.

And the points Jesus seemingly rubberstamps are pretty handy too.
