TAMPA — USF basketball is doing something that hasn’t been seen around the bay area in more than two decades.

The Bulls won their fifth in a row, and 11th of their past 12, to improve to 13-5 — equaling the program’s best start since the 2001-02 season — rolling over Texas-San Antonio 89-72 Saturday at the Yuengling Center.

The win also moved USF to 6-1 in the AAC and into a tie for second with No. 22 Florida Atlantic (16-4, 6-1), trailing Charlotte (13-7, 7-1) by a half-game.

USF made a school-record 18 3-pointers, breaking the mark of 14 that had been done three times (most recently this season against Alabama State on Dec. 29).

Kobe Knox had 18 points, five rebounds and four blocks to pace five Bulls scoring in double figures. Jose Placer added 16 points, and Chris Youngblood had 15. All three players each went 4-for-6 from 3 to lead the team’s 18-for-33 effort (54.3%) from long range.

Selton Miguel scored 15 and had a season-high six assists, and Kasean Pryor added 12 points.

Brandon Stroud led the way on the boards with a season-high 12 rebounds.

Jordan Ivy-Curry scored 23, the only player to reach double figures for the Roadrunners (8-13, 2-6).

USF took the lead with 17:36 remaining in the first half and never looked back. Youngblood led the Bulls with 11 points in the first half to help put them up 44-30 at the break. They pulled away with a 9-0 run in the second half to extend a 15-point lead to 24.

It’s only the seventh time in program history that USF has started a season 13-5, and the 6-1 AAC mark ties the best conference start for the Bulls, joining the 2000-01 team that was a member of Conference USA.
