STONEWALL — The Stonewall Lady Longhorns held an opponent to single digits for the second time this season in a 58-4 victory over Butner Tuesday night inside the Murphy-Roberts Gymnasium.
Coach Dillon Monday’s club, ranked No. 16 in Class A, improved to 17-4 on the year while Butner remained winless at 0-16. Stonewall has now won six straight games.
In the boys’ contest, Stonewall again made it look easy with a 73-20 triumph over the Eagles. The storybook season continued for coach Wes Moreland’s Longhorns — ranked No. 6 in Class A. Stonewall improved to a perfect 21-0 on the year.
Both SHS squads travel to Macomb tonight.
Stonewall 58, Butner 4
Stonewall bolted to a 24-2 lead after the first quarter and used a 14-0 shutout in the second frame to build a 38-2 halftime lead. The Lady Longhorns again held Butner scoreless in the third period and outscored the visitors 7-2 in the fourth frame.
Faith Ross poured in a team-high 25 points for Stonewall and also had seven rebounds, seven steals and four assists.
Lilly Wyce was the only other SHS player to reach double figures with 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting. She also had seven rebounds.
Madison Davis finished with three points and a team-high 10 boards.
Brooklyn Johnson scored all four Butner points.
Stonewall 73, Butner 20
The Longhorns scored 30 points in the opening frame and coasted to first-half leads of 30-5 and 57-9.
Mika Matt paced the Longhorn offense with 16 points and Ashton Bierce, who sank a pair of 3-pointers, finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, three steals and three assists. Tyler Larsh and Jamison Carrington contributed 11 points apiece for the home team. Taegus Pogue and Tyriese Higdon followed with eight points each.
Higdon also hit two triples for Stonewall, while Matt and Kaden Romines made one 3-pointer apiece.
No Butner player scored more than four points.
