INDIANAPOLIS — A familiar voice is coming back to Indiana sports talk radio.

According to a press release from Cumulus Media, former Indiana University men’s basketball player and coach Dan Dakich will host a new radio show on 1430 AM/WXNT-AM.

Next Monday, 1430 AM will launch “The Dan Dakich Show.” Dakich’s new show will air from noon to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Dakich had a notable previous stint in Indiana sports talk radio with WFNI “The Fan,” an Indianapolis-based ESPN radio affiliate. Dakich left WFNI and ESPN after a 14-year tenure, joining the OutKick Network.

Dakich’s show on OutKick, “Don’t @ Me with Dan Dakich,” airs Monday through Friday from 9-11 a.m. OutKick is based in Nashville, owned by the Fox Corporation and was founded by media entrepreneur Clay Travis, according to the company’s website.

Before he delved into media and entertainment, Dakich was the head coach of the Bowling Green University men’s basketball team. The Falcons made the NIT twice and won an outright Mid-American Conference championship under Dakich’s watch.

“Couldn’t be more thrilled to join the fantastic team at Indy’s Sports Ticket 1430 AM,” Dakich said via release. “The State of Indiana and I have had a lifetime love affair that extends way beyond sports, and sharing that daily is going to, once again, be a blast! Can’t wait to get started as we build Indy’s Sports Ticket 1430 AM into Indy’s go-to home for all things sports.”

Dakich has deep ties to Indiana. He went to Andrean High School in Merrillville, leading the small Catholic school to the IHSAA Boys State Basketball Finals. Andrean’s trip to the finals came before the IHSAA held separate postseason tournaments for large and small schools.

Dakich was a captain on the 1984 IU men’s basketball team — a group that made it to the Elite 8 in the NCAA Tournament under coach Bob Knight’s tutelage. The Hoosiers also won a Big Ten title while Dakich was in Bloomington. Dakich served in various roles on the Hoosiers’ coaching staff for 17 years.

“Indiana’s very own Dan Dakich returns to the airwaves as opinionated as ever and ready to break down all things sports on Indy’s Sports Ticket 1430 AM every weekday from noon to 3 p.m.,” said Darlene Park, Vice President and Market Manager of Cumulus Indianapolis. “He is an Indiana sports legend, and we are so excited he is bringing his game to our team.”

“The Dan Dakich Show” will also be available on 99.5 HD2 or the Indy’s Sports Ticket 1430 AM app.
